Privacy Policy

1. The Hiker's Code

We are thru-hikers, not data brokers. We do not sell your location data or personal information to third-party ad networks. Period.

2. Data We Collect & Why

  • Account Vitals: Email and Trail Name for squad management.
  • Precise Location: Powering the Tramily Dashboard and Tactical Pings.
  • Background Tracking: Provides safety updates to family via your private tracking link even when the app is in your pocket.
  • User Content: Logs, photos, and mileage stats to build your Hiker Resume.

3. Third-Party Partners

We use Google Firebase for secure data storage and authentication. We ensure our partners provide the same level of protection stated here.

4. Tactical Controls

  • Ghost Mode: Kill all location sharing instantly.
  • Blurred Privacy: Share coarse (approximate) location only.
  • Journal Encryption: Private Journals are encrypted at rest; we cannot read your logs.

5. Children's Privacy

Hiker Trash is not intended for users under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If detected, data is purged immediately.

6. The Right to Disappear

You have the right to delete your data at any time. Account deletion requests are processed within 30 days, scrubbing all logs permanently.

Terms of Service

7. Digital Leave No Trace

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or sharing private locations of other hikers without consent. Digital respect is as important as physical respect.

8. Assumption of Risk

Hiking involves risk. Hiker Trash is a logging tool, NOT a life-saving GPS device. Always carry physical maps and an SOS beacon. We are not liable for trail incidents.

9. User Content & Conduct

You own your logs and photos. By posting publicly, you grant us a license to display them within the app. Hiker Trash maintains a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content or harassment. Any reported content will be reviewed and removed within 24 hours. Users can block or report any hiker directly from the 'Wire' or 'Log' feeds.
