Trail Guide

Help

Hiker Trash is meant to make sense while you use it. This page collects the basics in one place when you need a reminder.

01

Getting Started

Set up your profile, add a trail name and photo if you want one, then create a hike when you're ready to start logging miles.

Most of Hiker Trash can be learned simply by exploring the app. Your Home screen, Logbook, Profile, Tramily, and Settings are the main places you'll use.

02

Logging Hikes

Create a hike and add log entries as you go. A log can include mileage, notes, and a photo.

If you don't know your exact mileage at the end of the day, enter your best estimate and edit the log later when you have better information.

A zero day is simply a day with no hiking mileage. You can still create a log for the day to keep notes or photos with the rest of your trip.

You can also use Hiker Trash for shorter hikes, training walks, and other trips. Keeping separate hikes makes your history easier to understand later.

03

Offline Use

Hiker Trash is designed for places where cell service is unreliable. You can continue creating logs while disconnected, including while your phone is in Airplane Mode.

Items that need the internet—such as sharing updates, uploading pending photos, or refreshing information from other hikers—will catch up after your device reconnects.

If you have pending information, give the app a little time with a working connection before assuming something failed to sync.

04

Location & Privacy

Hiker Trash can use your location for map and trail features. You control whether your location is visible to other people.

Open Settings in the app to review your location and privacy choices. If you don't want your location shown publicly, change your visibility settings there.

Location information can only update when your phone is able to determine your position and the app has the required permission.

05

Your Account

Account and privacy settings are available from Settings in the app.

If you want to permanently delete your Hiker Trash account and associated data, use the Delete Account option in the app or visit our account deletion page.

You can read more about the information used by Hiker Trash in our Privacy Policy.

06

Troubleshooting

Something hasn't synced yet

Confirm that your phone has a working internet connection, open Hiker Trash, and give pending information a chance to synchronize.

A photo isn't showing

Photo uploads require a working connection. If you added the photo offline, reconnect and allow the app time to finish the upload.

Your location isn't updating

Check your phone's location permission for Hiker Trash and review the location settings inside the app.
